About Ian Meaker
The licensed financial advisor behind Ian Meaker Brokers.
Ian entered the assurance industry in 1984 as an agent for Lifegro, earning membership of the Lifegro Honours Club in 1987. In 1988 he became an independent broker, qualifying as a selected independent broker with several life assurance companies.
In 1994 the Generali Group appointed him Regional Manager of Stangen, running the Cape Town and Eastern Cape regions. When Generali withdrew from South Africa in 1996, Ian resumed his independent brokerage. He was later approached by Wescol — owned by former Springbok Ockie Oosthuizen — to head Wescol Financial Advisory Services, and served as Managing Director of IFG Financial Services Eastern Cape for four years following the Wescol–IFG joint venture.
Ian holds a Certificate in Business Studies from the Insurance Institute of South Africa (120 credits, NQF, Discovery INSETA approved). With more than 40 years in financial services, he is well equipped to assist with your financial planning and investment needs.
Ian Meaker Brokers was established in September 1984 to provide individual, specialist financial advice to high‑net‑worth clients.

Ian Meaker Brokers also has contractual relationships with numerous local and international investment houses that do not offer life assurance products and therefore fall outside the Long-Term Insurance Act.

Regulatory information
Disclosed in terms of the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act (FAIS), Act No. 37 of 2002.
Authorisation
Ian Meaker Brokers is an authorised Financial Services Provider (FSP 31080 / FSP 45450), licensed for Long-Term Insurance Category B & C and Short-Term Insurance — Personal and Commercial Lines.
Remuneration
We earn commission paid by the product provider on the products our clients purchase. Fees and commission are disclosed in the relevant marketing material or application form. A gift register is available on request.
Professional indemnity
The FSP holds Professional Indemnity cover in the amount of R3 000 000.
Independence
Mr Meaker does not directly or indirectly hold 10% or more of any insurer’s shares, IMB is not an associated company of any insurer, and the FSP does not earn more than 30% of its commission from any one insurer.
